Recruiting Expert Practice Consultants
The Board of Registered Nursing Enforcement Division is currently recruiting qualified registered nurses with the professional and educational background to review investigative case materials, prepare written opinions, evaluating whether an RN deviated from the standards of nursing practice, or is responsible for unprofessional conduct.

The BRN needs expert consultants in the following areas of expertise:
- Critical Care-Adult
- Emergency Room
- Labor & Delivery
- Neonatal ICU
- Nurse Anesthetist
- Nurse Midwife
- Nurse Practitioner
- Operating Room
- Psych/Mental Health
- Risk Mgmt./Quality Assurance
- School Nurse
- Wound Care
This exciting opportunity may be yours if you meet the following qualifications:
- A current and active California RN license
- Ten or more years of experience as an RN
- Five years of clinical practice experience in the area of expertise listed above AND current employment in that setting
- No prior or current charges or discipline against any healthcare-related license in California or in any other place of licensure
- No criminal convictions, including any that were expunged or dismissed
- Must be able to write complete and concise reports
RN Expert Practice Consultant Compensation
RN expert practice consultants are paid $75 per hour for case review and preparation of the expert opinion report and $75 per hour plus expenses if called to testify at an administrative hearing. A very small number of cases may require you to appear as an expert witness.
Other Expert Practice Consultants Needed
The Board is also seeking qualified licensed Nurse Practitioners, Psychologists, Psychiatrists and Physicians to assist the Board by conducting physical exams and psychiatric evaluations. The BRN is authorized to compensate Nurse Practitioners and Psychologists at a rate of $125 per hour, Psychiatrists and Physicians are compensated $175 per hour. The hourly rate applies to examination of a licensee by the nurse practitioners, psychologists, psychiatrists, or physician and report preparation. The same hourly rate, plus expenses, applies when called to provide an expert testimony at an administrative hearing.
